MASSAGE FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH CANCER
Gayle is the author of Medicine Hands: Massage Therapy for People with Cancer, 3rd Ed. (2014, Findhorn Press) and Massage for the Hospital Patient and Medically Frail Client (2005, Lippincott Williams and Wilkin). Her original expertise came from massage with oncology patients at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. Since 1994 She has taught and supervised massage therapists in oncology medical/surgical in-patient units, in chemo infusion clinics, radiation oncology, apheresis and the bone marrow transplant unit. It has been her incredible good fortune to share and exchange knowledge with therapists around the United States, Scotland, Australia, Ireland, Sweden, and Holland. She is a founding member of the Society for Oncology Massage and the Iris Cancer Partnership in Scotland, as well as being the creator of the Oncology Massage Healing Summit and Oncology Massage Education Associates. The creation of and involvement with communities is one of the things that makes my heart sing. The other deep desire is the support of therapists and teachers in finding their work in the world.
THIS COURSE WILL BEGIN WITH WORKING THROUGH THE BOOK MEDICINE HANDS AT HOME WITH WEEKLY CHECK-INS ON THE FOLLOWING SCHEDULE:
- Every week beginning August 10th, you are assigned a chapter of Medicine Hands. Week 1 is ch. 4, week 2, is ch. 5, week 3 is ch. 7, week 4 is ch. 8.
- You also have to view the lectures on Metastasis and Surgery virtually during those 4 weeks.
FOLLOWED BY TWO WEEKENDS (24 HOURS) OF IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION TAUGHT BY GAYLE:

In-person workshops:
September 9-10th 10am-5pm, 1 hour lunch
September 23-24th 10am-5pm, 1 hour lunch. On the final day we will be bringing in patients from Willamette Valley Cancer Institute for clinicals. Please refrain from using scents or essential oils on this day.
FOR THE CLIENTS SAFETY IN THIS COURSE YOU WILL HAVE TO MASK DURING ANY HANDS-ON WORK.
